Control access to your videosite

Last Updated about a month ago

The videosite is an excellent choice for an intranet videoportal. Intranet security solutions come in all shapes and sizes ranging from super secure to more simple security, which is why Quickchannel supports a variety of security options for the videosite.

Here are the options that exist and with the benefits and potential problems with each alternative listed:

  • Protecting only videos and not the videosite - the Quickchannel platform allows you to configure security on a video level and also to configure said option as a default for the entire account. With this solution, the videosite itself will be publicly available but the protected content will only be visible to users with rights to access the content.

  • Protecting the videosite by IP adress restriction - the videosite itself can be protected to only allow users from a certain IP range. This is a simple solution if visitors always use the internal network to access the intranet. Users connecting from home can access the videosite via a VPN connection (assuming such exists). Mobile users can sometimes be problematic with this setup. Note this function can not be enabled using the customizer, please contact Quickchannel support.

  • Protecting the videosite using SSO authentication - the videosite can also work in a SSO environment using kerberos tickets for remote authentication. Note this function can not be enabled using the customizer, please contact Quickchannel support.

  • Protecting the videosite using simple referrer check (iframe access) - as seen in the screenshot below, the videosite can be configured to only allow users where the http referrer matches a set of defined values. This provides a very low degree of safety (since the referrer is easy to fake if the value if known) but it is also very easy to set up. Learn more about embedding the videosite in an iframe.

  • Protecting the videosite using a password (Password access control) - If you check the Enable box under "Password access control" a textfield will appear underneath for you to put in your desired password, after you put in your password press Save. Now when someone then tries to access your videosite a popup will appear and ask the user to login with the password.
