Google Analytics - usage
(For instructions on enabling this feature on your Quickchannel account, see the setup version of this article)
Introduction
Quickchannel provides the ability to collect statistics for media presented in the Quickchannel player to your Google Analytics account. Quickchannel sends the following metrics to Google Analytics:
Onyx Player | |
Metric | Description |
Impressions | Counts the number of times the player was loaded and shown to viewers. |
Started plays | Amounts of "first play" clicks. If a user replays the video after it ends it will count as 2 started plays. |
Amber Player | |
Metric | Description |
Impressions | Counts the number of times the player was loaded and shown to viewers. |
Views | Counts the number of times your video started to play. Note: The metric is registered after ad prerolls. |
Views click | Counts the number of times your video started by viewer interaction (click-to-play). |
Views autoplay | Counts the number of times your video started by autoplay. |
Views 3s / 10s / 30s | Counts the number of times videos are played for at least 3 sec/10 sec/30 sec (there can be no more than one entry in each metric category per viewer). Only unique views are measured, repeats are excluded. For example if a viewer plays a video for 20 seconds, he will generate one 3s view and one 10s view, but no 30s view. |
Views 10% / 20% /… / 100% | Counts the number of times a specific segment of the video has been watched. Only unique plays are counted.
|
Percentage viewed | The percentage of videos that viewers watched excluding repeats (only unique plays are measured). The metric is sent when the player session is finished (e.g. viewer clicked a related video or closed the browser). |
Time watched | Counts total time watched including repeats except if the video has loop option enabled (automatic repeats). If loop option is enabled, only unique time is measured in order to prevent significant increase of metric without user interaction. The metric is sent when the player session is finished (e.g. viewer clicked a related video or closed the browser). |
Related | Counts the number of times viewers clicked related videos. |
Share - [SOCIAL_NAME] | Counts the number of times viewers clicked the share options.

View the reports (Google Analytics panel)
Once event tracking has been set up on your site, you can view statistics for videos in Google Analytics.
Note: It may take up to 48 hours for Google Analytics to process some data, more details can be found in this article.
These views can be found under:
Google Analytics → Behaviour → Events → Top Events → Videos (Event Category)
By adjusting the "Primary Dimension" (Event action, Event label) and "Secondary Dimension" filters you can view the results that interest you. For example, if you want to see how many times users played your videos, select:
- Primary dimension → Event Label
- Secondary dimension → Events → Event Action
Then you will see all metrics for your videos. You can filter these results and focus on only one metric (e.g. "Views", see the first image below) or one video (the second image below).
