Apply transitions

Last Updated about a month ago

In this tutorial you'll learn how to use in and out transitions for video clips.

Create a new project

First, you need to create a new project using either the Console or from the Video Editor dashboard. See the overview article for more details.

Add clips to track

Once you are in the Video Editor project, search for a video in the upper right area using a text search or narrow down the results using category or tag filter. Below is an example of text filter "Lake" in a "Life" category. These clips will be used to produce the final video.

Enable the magnet button above the tracks. This will help sticking the clips to the beginning of the track and to each other.

Also, zoom out a bit if the first clip is large, to see where it ends after it will be dropped on the track. Then, drag and drop the clips to the video track:

You should now have two clips next to each other.

Add transition effect

Click on the first clip so the "Edit clip" panel is shown and expand the "Transition" area. Select "Fade" for "Out" transition and choose a color of your choice:

You can adjust how long will the transition be in the "Duration" field.

Do the same steps for the second clip, but this time use the "In" transition:

Notice the transitions are marked on the clips with gray triangles:

Render video

You can check how the transition will look like using the preview panel, and use the "Render" button to generate the final video with transitions. See below how the final effect will look like:
